Cobalt

Cobalt /ˈkoʊ.bɔlt/ – the designation of the chemical element Co (lat. Cobaltum) at.m/ 58.9332.  It is a silvery-white heavy metal of K-radiation color, density 8900 kg/m3, liquid=1493°C.  It has ferromagnetic properties and retains ferromagnetism from low temperatures to 1120°C (Curie point). K minerals (cobaltine, skutterudite) are rare.  Nickel ores are the main source of industrial cobalt. Nickel ores are part of high-speed, refractory, and magnetic alloys (see Cobalt alloys).  K. blue is used in the preparation of ointments and dyes.  The radioactive isotope Co is used as a source of gamma radiation in technology and medicine.  Cobalt means demon in German.
