Amalgam [əˈmæl.ɡəm] (lat. Amalgam – alloy, derived from Arabic-Greek) is an alloy with mercury as one of its components. Mercury, etc. depending on the ratio of metals, A. can be liquid, semi-liquid and solid (at room temperature). When metal is wetted with mercury, it is formed as a result of diffusion of mercury into the metal.
Ex. Amalgam, due to the inclusion of mercury, finds utilization in diverse fields, from dentistry to the creation of mirrors and gold plating on metal objects.
