Detritus

Detritus /dɪˈtraɪtəs / (from the Latin detritus – worn out) is an organogenic clastic material in sediments or sedimentary rocks. Detritus is formed from fragments of plant tissue, shells, skeletal parts of animals and their secretions. Based on the degree of fragmentation of detritus, fine detritus and coarse detritus are distinguished.

Ex. Detritus builds up in these dead spots and can cause pockets of dangerous levels of hydrogen sulfide.
