Ebonite /`ebəˌnait/(Greek. Ebenos – black tree), hard rubber – a product made from vulcanization of natural and synthetic rubber with a large amount of sulfur (makes up 30-50% of rubber). It is characterized by its hardness, high tensile strength (50-70 MPa), electrical insulation properties (comparative electrical resistance 30-80 Tom.m), resistance to alkalis, non-hygroscopicity, gas permeability. Prone to mechanical processing. Mainly, it is used in the preparation of electrical engineering products, for example, battery banks.
Ex.Ebonite has been used in the past for making buttons, jewelry, and even small decorative items.
