Extraction / ɪkˈstræk.ʃən/ – (lat. extraho-extract) – a method of separating a solid or liquid mixture; in which they are treated with various solvents whose components are not uniformly soluble. Usually, extraction is carried out in aqueous solutions using water-insoluble organic solvents (extractants) in diffusion devices (extractors). The reverse process of extraction is reextraction. After extraction, it is cooled, centrifuged, crystallized, etc. to separate the phases. It is used in hydrometallurgy, pharmaceutical preparations, food and chemical products.
Ex.Even in flooded regions peat extraction continued via turf dredging.
