Fretting [frɛtɪŋ] – corrosion (fretting, fret. – to collapse, rot) – corrosion observed when microscopic displacements form between their surfaces in places where parts bond or slide against each other as a result of vibration.
Ex.With intensive use of mining equipment, the problem of fretting arises, which manifests itself in mechanical wear of surfaces and joints due to repeated small movements. For example, fretting can be observed on connecting bolts or joints in underground mines.
