Lithophiles [ˈlithəˌfīl] – are extremophilic microorganisms that can exist in crevices and pores of sedimentary and even volcanic rocks at a depth of several kilometers. Some live on the surface of rocks and provide themselves with energy through photosynthesis.
Ex. Being denser than lithophiles, hence sinking lower into the crust during its solidification, chalcophiles tend to be less numerous than lithophiles.
