Polishing /ˈpɒ.lɪʃ.ɪŋ/ (German. Polieren. Lat. Polio – I polish) – processing (finishing) the surface of materials to make it smooth as a mirror. Metals are polished on J. lathes with fast-rotating soft wheels made of fetra or wire, or with fast-moving tapes coated with polishing paste, as well as on machines that work with an abrasive liquid.
Ex. After processing rock and mineral samples from the mine, engineers carry out a polishing process to obtain a clean, smooth surface for further analysis.
